Finding a home among the experimental, secretive, and gorgeous timbres found in the world of new music, flutist Chelsea Czuchra is a performer who embraces a broad variety of musical settings and repertoire. Her work as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America and Europe has included appearances as varied as “scotch tape virtuoso” and bull-roarer player in addition to her expertise with the flute family.

A long-time supporter of new voices in contemporary music, Chelsea is the co-artistic director Cochlea Duo and Damselfly Trio, ensembles whose recent projects have included commissioning and premiering new works by Asha Srinivasan, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, Brittany J. Green, Alfred Zimmerlin, Luzia von Wyl, and Vera Kappeler.

Chelsea’s recent concert appearances include performances at Eastman School of Music, the New Music Series at Lawrence University, Omaha Under The Radar Festival, a tour of Ireland/Northern Ireland, Friday Evening Concerts in Rheinfelden (Switzerland), and a residency at Banff, as well as recording sessions in Germany and the US. With Damselfly Trio, Chelsea’s recording of Ryan Molloy and Martin Dyar’s song cycle Buaine na Gaoithe was released by the National University of Ireland in 2021.

As an advocate for arts education, Chelsea frequently teaches and collaborates with outreach programs in Switzerland and around the US. Though based in Switzerland since the turn of the century, Chelsea was raised in eastern North Carolina and is a proud graduate of UNCSA, the NC Governor’s School, Purchase College, and CalArts.
